Notes for Pierre Bettemont:
Pierre Bettemont was the only son of a poor family in Sarcelles (about ten miles from Paris). He was a dyer, but it's doubtful that he made any discernable income from his trade. He and his wife Charlotte Delormel lived below the poverty line and were usually in debt. Their sole income seemed to be the interest on an annuity Charlotte Delormel's aunt, Marie Madeleine Damiette, had purchased for the Bettemont children. Although Pierre & Charlotte both wrote well, Genevieve was herself illiterate, as there had been no money for her education. Her two younger sisters never reappear in family documents and probably became casualties of malnutrition and the Great Winter of 1709.
Notes for Charlotte Delormel:
By December 1744 Charlotte Delormel had remarried and been widowed again.
