Obituary:  The Standard (St. Catherines, ONT), Thursday, 11 December 1969:  Peters, Simon - Suddenly at Memorial Hospital, Niagara Falls, New York, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1969, Simon Peters, widower of Susan Peters, late of Sydney, Nova Scotia, dear father of Mrs. Hilaire (Mary) Briand, this city; Mrs. Rita McKay, Mrs. Louis (Viola) Landry, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Jacobs, all of Galt; Mrs. Leo (Cecilia) Samson, Mrs. Thomas (Rosie) Walsh, Mrs. Ross (Kay) Pushie, all of Sydney, Nova Scotia; Bernie of this city; and Abraham of Sydney, Nova Scotia; also survived by 44 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.  At the Hulse and English Funeral Chapel until 8 p.m. this (Thursday) evening, thence to Sydney, Nova Scotia for service and interment.

Mary Rebecca Peters:  The Standard (St. Catherines, ONT), Thursday, 3 March 2005:  Briand, Mary Rebecca (Peters) - On Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in her 87th year.  Beloved wife of the late Hilaire (1974).  Dear mother of Simon Briand of Port Dalhousie, Hillary Briand and wife Betty of Vancouver Island, B.C., Albert Briand and wife Doreen of Gasline, Richard Briand and wife Diane, Marie Morris and husband Fred, Joan Hoekstra and husband Norman, all of St. Catherines, Ernie Briand and wife Shirley of Angus and Norman Joseph and wife Beverly of Welland.  Survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Will be remembered by sister Cecelia and husband Leo Sampson and brother Abraham Peters and wife Marie, all of Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Predeceased by her daughter, Diane and siblings Albert, Bernie, Viola, Rose, Florence and Kay.  Mary was an executive member of the Maritime Club, St. Catherines through the 60's and 70's.  Family will receive friends at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Denis Roman Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal to follow in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill.  Parish Vigil Prayers will be said in the funeral home Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions to the St. Catherines General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital or Versa Care would be appreciated.

 

Cecilia May Peters:  C. B. Post (NS), Saturday, 2 July 2005:  Cecilia Mae Sampson, 84, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care facility and formerly of Blackett's Lake Road, passed away peacefully Friday, July 1, 2005, with the knowledge that she was now free to go, deeply loved by her family who will love and miss her forever.  Born in L'Ardoise, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Susan Peters of L'Ardoise.  Cecilia is a former member of St. Theresa parish, Sydney, and was involved in the ladies auxiliary.  She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 151, East Bay.  Cecilia is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Leo; three daughters, Patsy Burton (Ralph), Marion Bridge, Carol LeBlanc (Jamie), Livonia, Mich., U.S.A., Marie Butler (Mike), P.E.I.; five sons, John Poirier (Heather), Alphonse Poirier (Aileen), Charles Poirier (Sharon), all of Ontario, Ron Sampson (Sylvia), P.E.I., and James Sampson (Gisele), Moncton, N.B.  Also surviving is one sister, Rita MacKay, Cambridge, Ont.; and brother, Abe Peters, Sydney; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.  Visitation for the late Cecilia Mae Sampson will be held Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.  Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Parish Renovation Fund, East Bay.  By request of the family, if flowers are to be sent, they ask that no roses by used because of an allergic condition by one of the family members. 

 

Bernard Peters:  15 December 1993:  Peters, Bernie - 70, St. Catharines, Ont., formerly of Cape Breton, died December 13, 1993, at home.  Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Simon and Susan Peters.  He is survived by a son, Gary, Barrie, Ont.; three grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Briand, Cecilia Sampson, Rita McKay, Rose Walsh, Kay Pushie; brother, Abe.  He was predeceased by a brother, Albert; two sisters, Viola, Florence.  Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.  Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Church, East Bay, Rev. Frank Abbass officiating.  Burial will follow in parish cemetery.
 

Viola May Peters:  The Standard (St. Catherines, ONT), Monday, 16 January 1978:  Landry, Viola May - At Hotel Dieu Hospital, Sunday, Jan. 15, 1978, Viola May Landry of 30 1/2 Stuart St., in her 51st year, beloved wife of Louis, dear mother of Bruce, Cambridge; Mrs. Bernard (Linda) Poirier, St. Catherines; Mrs. Conrad (Mary Lou) Goulet, Cambridge; brother of Bernard Peters, St. Catherines; Abraham Peters, Sidney, N.S.; Mrs. Mary Briand, St. Catherines; Mrs. Leo (Cecilia) Sampson, Mrs. Ross (Kay) Pushie, Mrs. Tom (Rosie) Walsh, all of Sidney, N.S.; Mrs. Bernard (Rita) Casey, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Jacobs, both of Cambridge; also survived by eight grandchildren.  Predeceased by one son Robert in 1974 and a brother Albert in 1967.  Resting at the Darte & Son Funeral Residence until Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 10:30 a.m.  Mass for a Christian Burial in St. Denis Church at 11 a.m.  Interment in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.  Prayers in the funeral home this Monday evening at 8:30.  Memorial remembrances to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Mary Catherine Peters:  23 October, 1998:  Pushie (Peters), Kay - Avalon Drive, Sydney River, died October 22, 1998, at home.  Born in L'Ardoise, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Susan (Lathigee) Peters.  She was a member of St. Andrews Church and Sydney River Y's Menettes.  She started singing with Emilio Pace Orchestra in the 1940s and later with the Acadians at the popular Silver Rail.  She did several TV and radio shows and the Rotary show, Anything Goes, in 1974.  She worked at Woolco Department Store for more than 20 years.  Surviving are her husband, Ross; daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Greg MacDonald), Westmount; Susan (Mrs. Bill Curtis), Halifax; sons, Ray (Penney), Tex.; Andy (Stacey), Halifax; seven grandchildren; sisters, Rose Walsh, Sydney River; Mary Briand, Rita MacKay, Cecelia Sampson, all of Ontario; brother, Abe, Sydney.  She was predeceased by sisters, Viola Landry, Florence Jacobs.  No visitation.  Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.  Memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Sydney River Y's Menettes.
